These are the moments I love to photograph.
My approach to proposal photography is rooted in natural documentary storytelling. Rather than trying to manufacture reactions or turn your proposal into a staged photoshoot, I’ll work discreetly to capture what happens.
You won’t need to look towards the camera or worry about posing. In fact, for the proposal itself, I’d much rather you forget I’m there.
Once the question has been asked and you’ve had a chance to enjoy the moment together, we can take some beautiful, relaxed portraits to celebrate your engagement.
The result is a collection of photographs that captures both the genuine surprise and the happiness that follows.

A little thoughtful preparation makes all the difference to a surprise proposal.
You might already know exactly where and when you want to ask. Perhaps you’ve chosen somewhere that holds special memories, or you’re planning a romantic weekend away and haven’t quite settled on the location.
Either way, we’ll talk through your plans beforehand so that you can concentrate on the important part.

Getting Everything in Place
We’ll discuss your chosen location, the proposed timing, the available light and where you’re likely to be standing when you ask the question.
I’ll also consider where I can position myself to capture the moment without unnecessarily drawing attention.
Before the day, we’ll agree on how to recognise each other discreetly and how to communicate if your plans change.
If you’re planning to propose at a hotel, castle, restaurant or privately managed venue, we’ll also discuss any photography permissions or additional venue charges that may apply.
It’s about being prepared, not making the occasion complicated.

Capturing the Moment Discreetly
On the day, I’ll arrive in good time and position myself before the proposal.
Depending on the location, I may simply look like somebody photographing the scenery or blend into the surroundings.
When the moment arrives, I’ll concentrate on the expressions, reactions and little details that make the occasion so special.
Of course, surprises don’t always unfold exactly as planned. That’s part of what makes them genuine, and why preparation and the ability to react quickly are so important.

After the Question
Once you’ve proposed, there’s no rush.
Enjoy the moment together. Celebrate, laugh, embrace and take everything in.
When you’re ready, I’ll introduce myself properly and we can spend some time creating beautiful, relaxed engagement portraits.
These can be as simple as a walk together, a quiet moment overlooking the scenery or something a little more celebratory.
And if you’d like to celebrate with champagne-style spray photographs or atmospheric sparkler portraits, we can plan those too.

Celebrate Your Engagement With Beautiful, Natural Portraits
The surprise itself may happen in seconds, but the excitement afterwards deserves to be remembered too.
Following your proposal, we’ll have time to create a collection of natural portraits together, capturing the happiness, excitement and connection between you.
I keep these sessions relaxed, offering a little guidance where it helps but never expecting you to spend the entire time posing for the camera.
We might explore the surroundings, find a beautiful pocket of light or simply capture you enjoying your first moments as an engaged couple.
A little extra celebration
Champagne Celebrations and Sparkler Photography
For something a little more playful, we can create those spectacular champagne spray photographs that add such a wonderful sense of celebration.
I provide a specially selected non-alcoholic sparkling drink that produces a beautiful spray, so there’s nothing extra for you to organise or purchase.
For evening proposals, we can create atmospheric sparkler portraits that add a little drama and romance to your photographs. I provide the sparklers too, so there’s nothing extra to arrange.

One of the wonderful things about Yorkshire is the variety of places you can choose for a proposal.
From historic streets and peaceful gardens to open countryside, dramatic coastlines and quiet places known only to you both, there’s no shortage of beautiful settings.
But the most meaningful location isn’t necessarily the most famous. Sometimes, somewhere that holds a personal memory is the perfect place to ask.
01 / EAST YORKSHIRE
Hull, East Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Coast
Being based in Hull, I’m ideally placed for proposals throughout East Yorkshire.
Hull’s historic Old Town, Marina and waterfront offer distinctive settings for couples who love the city, while the Yorkshire Wolds provide beautiful countryside and open landscapes.
For coastal proposals, places around Hornsea, Bridlington and Flamborough offer a completely different atmosphere, with sweeping sea views and beaches that can look wonderful in the softer light of early morning or evening.
02 / Further Afield
York, Leeds and Beyond
I also cover proposals across a substantial part of Yorkshire, including York, Leeds, Wetherby, Pontefract and Castleford.
Whether you’re planning a quiet surprise during a visit to York, a proposal in a favourite city location or something more secluded in the surrounding countryside, we can discuss how best to capture it.
I’m also happy to travel further afield, including destinations such as the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire coast, with any additional travel arrangements agreed beforehand.

Choosing the Right Location
We’ll consider more than just how beautiful a place looks.
Access, privacy, lighting, weather, public footfall and any restrictions at private venues can all affect the photography.
Some hotels, estates, castles and other privately managed venues may require advance permission or charge for professional photography or use of their grounds.
Any venue access, photography or hire fees are separate from my photography price and are the responsibility of the client. These should be confirmed with the venue before the proposal.
I’ll help you think through the practical details so we have a sensible plan that allows you to enjoy the occasion.

Although I’m based in Hull, my proposal photography isn’t limited to East Yorkshire.
Travel within approximately 75 miles of Hull is included in your £350 experience, covering locations such as York, Leeds, Wetherby, Pontefract, Castleford, Bridlington and many surrounding areas.
Planning something further afield, perhaps in the Yorkshire Dales or along the North Yorkshire coast? I’m happy to travel, with any additional costs agreed in advance.

Planning a surprise can bring plenty of questions. Here are a few things worth knowing before the big moment.
Yes. We’ll plan the location, timing and where I’ll be positioned beforehand so I can photograph the moment as discreetly as possible. Although complete secrecy can’t be guaranteed, careful preparation helps everything unfold naturally.
My complete proposal photography experience is £350. This includes up to 90 minutes of photography, advance planning, the proposal itself, relaxed engagement portraits, your complete edited digital gallery, optional champagne-style and sparkler photographs, and a keepsake box containing ten 5×7-inch prints.
I’m based in Hull and photograph proposals throughout Yorkshire. Travel within 75 miles of Hull, measured by one-way road distance, is included in the £350 price. I’m also happy to travel further afield, with any additional costs agreed before booking.
Yes. You’ll receive your complete professionally edited gallery, with every delivered photograph available as a high-resolution download. There are no additional download charges or fixed limits on the number of edited images included.
Absolutely. I provide a specially selected non-alcoholic sparkling drink for champagne-style spray photographs, along with sparklers for evening portraits. Both are included in your experience and are entirely optional, subject to suitable conditions and venue permissions.
Some hotels, castles, estates and privately managed venues require advance permission or charge for professional photography, access or private hire. Any such charges are separate from my photography fee and are the client’s responsibility.
We’ll discuss practical alternatives beforehand wherever possible. If the weather, timing or location changes, let me know as soon as you can so we can work out the best way to adapt the photography.
You’ll receive a presentation box containing ten professionally printed 5×7-inch photographs of your choice. Once your online gallery is ready, simply select your favourites and I’ll arrange the prints.
